How to become a pilot

Just like anyone of you, a few years ago I was a college pass-out. Like the name suggests, yes. I did my engineering.. But there was more to it. wanted to fly, taste the sky and that’s where this journey began!! The journey is challenging, but it’s a dream come true and a testament to breaking barriers and reaching new horizons. As the first in my family to pursue this career, I’m now a Pilot on Airbus A320. 01 Eligibility Criteria

Age: Minimum 17 years for Student Pilot License (SPL).
Education: 10+2 with Physics, Maths, and English OR equivalent OR Nios.
Medical Fitness: Pass Class 2 and Class 1 medical exams by a DGCA-approved examiner before Flight Training.

02 DGCA Ground School

Choosing the right DGCA ground school is vital for your success in becoming a pilot in India. They provide theoritical knowledge and prepare you for DGCA exams which includes subjects namely :

Air Navigation
Aviation Meteorology
Air Regulation
Technical General
Technical Specific

I cleared my DGCA exams in just 30 days with the help of CNTAA – The Pilot Ground School.

03 Computer Number

When preparing for DGCA exams, apply for a unique computer number used to track your results and records during computer based examinations. Processing takes about 30-45 days and requires specific documents.

04 Flight School

Choosing a reputable flying Academy is vital for your future as a Pilot. Look for DGCA-approved flight schools with a proven track record in Pilot Training. Consider facilities, aircraft fleet, experienced instructors, and placement assistance. Once enrolled, the flight school will guide you in obtaining an SPL and other necessary documents. After completing your flight training and meeting DGCA requirements, you will receive a Commercial Pilot’s License.

05 Type Rating

To fly commercial aircraft, you may need to undergo type rating training, which is specific to the aircraft type you intend to operate.

06 Airline interview

An airline interview is a crucial evaluation of a candidate’s skills, knowledge, and suitability for a pilot or flight attendant position. It assesses technical competency, communication, decision-making, and alignment with the airline’s culture and values.
